Summer 2017 round of the Simon Cumbers Media Fund Opens

Minister of State for the Diaspora and International Development Joe McHugh TD has announced that journalists and media professionals interested in reporting on global development issues can now apply for funding under the summer 2017 round of the Simon Cumbers Media Fund.

The Fund, which is designed to facilitate coverage of development issues in the Irish media, is supported by Irish Aid, the Government’s overseas aid programme. It was set up in memory of Irish journalist Simon Cumbers, who was killed while on assignment in Saudi Arabia in 2004.

Proposed projects should focus on international development themes, including the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and applicants must demonstrate the relevance of their project to one or more of the seven Irish Aid Priority Areas for Action. These priority areas include: hunger, climate change, trade and economic growth and human rights.

An information session for those interested in applying will be held at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade on Tuesday, 11th April 2017 from 11am to 1pm. Media professionals who wish to attend should register by emailing, putting “Dublin Information Session” in the subject line.

The deadline for the receipt of submissions to the summer 2017 round is Wednesday, 10th May at 5pm.
